These are all common problems with the Z31 and can be related to the clutch not fully releasing due to clutch fork flexing.

ZSpeed Performance has recently checked a brand new stock 300zx clutch fork and found that with the same load that is applied to it in the car with a aftermarket clutch kit the stock fork will flex almost .130″

This doesn’t seem like much until you know that the stock clutch system only moves the clutch release bearing about .400″

You are losing more than 1/4 of the clutch travel just by clutch fork flex.

The flimsy stock fork just cannot take the heavier force needed to properly release the aftermarket clutches in the Z31 platform.

The reason most places that build clutches for the z31 remove the marcel in the full face disk is because the stock system in the Z31 simply cannot release the clutch all the way and is the reason you normally have to adjust the clutch pedal rod so far out to get your clutch to release.

Just by changing the stock z31 clutch fork out with this kit you will instantly notice a huge difference in clutch release and accuracy.

You will notice quicker release, You can feel the clutch actually over center and start to feel lighter as you are now getting far enough to FULLY release the clutch. Shifts will also be lighter feeling and faster.

To change your clutch fork you do have to remove the trans from the vehicle.

  • New HD cast iron clutch fork
  • Both Retaining Springs are included in our kit, Throw out bearing retainer spring and pivot ball attachment spring
  • Heat Treated Pivot Ball and Washer (TQ to 28ftlbs, W/Blue Loctite)
  • New Dust Boot

 

These kits only work with the FS5R30A and the BW Turbo Transmissions. Will not work with the 71C Trans.
